Architectural Heritage Center: South Portland & Lawrence Halprin's Open Space Sequence Walking Tours in July 2025
We hope you'll join us for these special tours led by the Architectural Heritage Center where you'll learn about the city's first urban renewal project and how it irreparably changed the physical, social, and cultural landscape of the neighborhood south of the Keller Auditorium. You'll explore the Portland Open Space Sequence, a series of fountains designed by Lawrence Halprin and Associates between 1965 and 1970 that are now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The tour includes a stop at the Keller Auditorium (opened as the Public Auditorium in 1917), whose proposed renovations into a modern, world-class performing arts venue would strengthen the historic connections between the auditorium and neighboring Keller Fountain. This tour will be offered three times in the month of July!
